GENERAL INFORMATION

The US Research and Education Programs Alumni Armenian Association (USREPAAA), a non-governmental, non-profit organization, was created on July 4, 1997 with the goal of bringing together Armenian citizens who have spent extensive time studying or participating in academic and research programs in US universities and other academic institutions. The purpose of the Association is to unify these students and researchers to attain common goals, and to utilize their experience and knowledge gained in the USA to provide for a better life for the people of Armenia. Over the course of the last seven years, the membership of association has increased nearly eight-fold, reaching 120. The USREPAAA is a pioneer and the first US alumni association in Armenia. The experience and successful projects of the USREPAAA stipulated creation of other alumni associations in Armenia, Russia and other post-soviet countries.

The activities and mission of the association are anchored in several core ideas, such as democracy, maintenance and rejuvenation of national values, education, encouraging the development of science and culture, peaceful co-existence, tolerance, free competition and the rule of law.


MEMBERSHIP

Members of the Association can become those Armenian citizens, who studied, taught, were trained or did research at US universities or at any other educational or research institutions on one-month term or more.

Those who wish to acquire membership at the Association must submit a written application to the Board of the Association. The Board of the Association carries out the decision on membership acquisition. The application on membership acquisition must be discussed, and the Board carries out the decision within 15 days after receiving the application.

The membership fee is 5000 AMD annually.


THE GOVERNING AND CONTROLING BODIES

The highest governing body of the Association is the General meeting of the members, which has the right to carry out the final decision on any issue concerning the activities or the administration of the Association.
The General Meeting elects the President of the Association, the Board of the Association and the Controlling Committee, which submits reports to the General Meeting.
